Floyd Allen Smauley

February 05, 2026

Floyd Allen Smauley, 98, of Baird, peacefully met his Lord on January 29, 2026. He was a blessing to all who encountered him. Always kind, often quiet, fair and respectful to all he met. As a father, he was loving and supportive, yet stern when needed. As a man of faith, he was an example for us all.
Floyd Smauley was born on January 13, 1928, to Carson and Ella Smauley. He was raised on a farm near Longworth Texas and graduated from Sweetwater High School. He served in the United States Navy as a fireman (engineer) for two years on a supply ship in the Pacific immediately after World War II. He began his career with the Texas Highway Department in Sweetwater, Texas in  1948. Floyd married the love of his life, Joyce Yvonne Glass, on October 14, 1951. The Smauley family moved to Baird, Texas in 1962 where Floyd became maintenance foreman of the highway department for Callahan County. He devoted 40 years of service to the Texas Department of Highways.
Floyd was known for his deep faith and service to God as a deacon at First Baptist Church of Baird. He served in many capacities: teacher, friend, supporter, counselor and was always willing to help a neighbor in need. One of his passions in life was playing golf. He and Joyce were founding members of Shady Oaks Golf Course. On any given day, he could be found swinging a club and perfecting his craft. He impressed everyone with his accomplishment of eleven hole-in-one’s witnessed by various friends at the course. He also loved gardening. He was always sharing his bounty of veggies and flower bulbs.
Known as PaPa or PawPaw to his four grandsons, he was an ever-present source of support and love. He attended many soccer games, tennis matches, orchestra concerts, cross-country runs, trips to Disneyland, graduations, weddings and much more.
Floyd was predeceased by his wife, Joyce, his parents and three siblings.
Floyd is survived by his son David Smauley and wife Alycia; daughter Sheila Kidd and husband Ronnie; grandchildren, Andrew Smauley, Nathaniel Smauley and wife Dana, Riley Kidd and partner Josh Pope, and Kirby Kidd and wife Sierra.
Visitation is scheduled for February 6, 2026, from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. at Parker-Jacobs Funeral Home, 141 East Third Street, Baird, Texas. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on February 7, 2026, at Parker-Jacobs Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at Ross Cemetery in Baird.
